Trial of Jack McCall June 1-13 DEADWOOD Deadwood Alive, the award-winning cast that brings the Old West to life each summer with Main Street Shootouts and the Trial of Jack McCall, noted as one of the longest running plays having started in the mid 1920s, announces the start of the 2015 season by offering free admission to residents of Deadwood, Lead, and Central City. Pioneer Hour June 11-19 DEADWOOD Children and their parents are invited to participate in an hour-long session of activities associated with the pioneer lifestyle. Each weekday activity will be different and include a variety of historic games, crafts, music, and art. Pioneer Hour will take place from 3-4 p.m. June 11-19 at the Days of Museum.

Admission is free. The program will continue through July 31 with the exception of Deadwood History summer camp sessions. For more information, contact Shantel Herman at 578-1657. Art in the Canyon June 11 SPEARFISH Eight of the gallery artists from the Matthews Opera House and Arts Center will be featured at the Spearfish Canyon Lodge through the end of September. They include: Heidi Watson, Richard Dubois, Marion Toillion, Kathy Sigle, Mary Ann Larsen, Bonnie Fleming, and Dede Farrar.

The opening reception is 5-8 p.m., Thursday, June 11, in the Spearfish Canyon Lodge main lobby. Live and silent auctions will raise funds to benefit the opera house and arts center. Anne Charles book signing June 12 LEAD-DEADWOOD The Lead Deadwood Arts Center is very pleased to announce a book signing with Deadwood Mystery Series author, Anne Charles. The signing will take place from 10 a.m.

to 3 p.m. on Friday, June 12, with books available for purchase. Refreshments will be served! Come chat with Ann and meet the award-winning author. For more information, call 584-1461. Putnam Pratt Party June 12 DEADWOOD The Putnam Pratt Party on the Patio will be held from 7-9 p.m.

on Friday, June 12, on the outdoor patio at the Days of Museum. Tickets can be purchased at the door. A cash bar and light snacks will be available. Fiddle champion Kenny Putnam and fancy picker Gordy Pratt will offer a fabulous evening of musical entertainment. The duo will play a variety of fiddle tunes, Brazilian classics, as well as popular and original songs.

Buckles and Bows square dance June 12 SPEARFiSH Buckles and Bows Square Dance club will host our regular dance on Friday, June 12, at the Spearfish Senior Center, located on 10th Street Plus dancing starts at 7:30 p.m. with mainstream dancing starting at 8 p.m. The caller for this dance is Dean Dederman from Norfolk, Neb.

We are celebrating summer with our annual hot dog dance. Everyone is welcome. Gardening classes for kids June 13, 20 and July 18, 25 BELLE FOURCHE The Tri-State Museum and Center of the Nation Visitor Center will hold a series of four gardening classes for children this summer. The classes are for students entering Kindergarten through fourth grade and take place on four Saturdays: June 13 and 20, and July 18 and 25. Each class is from a.m.

Master Gardener plant sale June 13 SPEARFISH Northern Hills Master Gardeners are having their plant sale fundraiser from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday, June 13, at Brady Park at the corner of Meier Avenue and Grant Street in Spearfish. House plants, perennials, and bedding plants will be offered for a donation.

Monies collected will go toward hosting the 2016 statewide Master Gardener convention. Master Gardeners will also be available each week at the farmers market on Saturday all summer at the same location and time to provide information on your gardening questions and concerns. Walk Through Europe concert June 13 SPEARFISH us for an evening of chamber music, which brings together musicians from around the world. A Walk Through Europe concert will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 13, at Black Hills State University in Meier Hall.

Catherine Thybo Chapter meeting June 13 WHITEWOOD Catherine Thybo Chapter meeting will be held Saturday, June 13, at the Presbyterian Church in Whitewood. Instead of having a presentation at the meeting, there will be a Crook City display set up for members to view from 9:30 to 9:55 a.m., while you are getting your coffee and treats. We will have a photo opportunity for Flag Day. If you have something to wear that is red, white, blue, it will look nice in the photo. We have a busy meeting scheduled from 10-11 a.m.

Cemetery Walk June 13 BELLE FOURCHE The second annual Cemetery Walk will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, at Pineslope Cemetery in Belle Fourche. The event features presentations by re-enactors, who appear as significant personalities from Belle Fourche history. In the event of inclement weather, the Cemetery Walk will be held at the Tri-State Museum. For any additional information about the Cemetery Walk, contact Sheila Frost at 892-3748.

Islam and the Islamic State presentation June 13 SPEARFISH A presentation titled and the Islamic will be given information about Islam, history of the Islamic faith (difference between Sunni and Shia), what Islam represents (the five pillars of Islam), where it exists, the birth of ISIS, how it relates to Christianity and Judaism, and how we, as a nation, are preparing to deal with the Islamic State. This free presentation will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, in the Spearfish Senior Citizens Center, 1306 N. 10th St. Sponsored by the Lawrence County Republicans Central Committee, coffee and light refreshments will be served.

For more information, call 645-2462. 4th of July parade July 3 deadline SPEARFISH The 15th annual Fourth of July parade is looking for participants. You can pick up an application at the Hickory House or Spearfish Chamber of Commerce. The parade will take place at 1 p.m. on July 4.

Space Camp June 16-18 LEAD There are 15 openings for middle school students (ages 11-15) for the Black Hills State Underground Research Facility Space Camp offered at the new Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center. The camp will provide basic knowledge about space science in a fun and engaging learning environment with lots of activities. It will also provide depth of content for those students who have specific interests. There is a fee per person.

Note: if weather and clear skies permit, the camp will be extended to the 19th at no extra charge. To register and for more details, please contact Tom Campbell at (906)236-1913 or Thomas. garden tour June 20 SPEARFISH The Northern Hills Master Gardeners will host a Spearfish Garden Tour June 20 (rain date June 27). This is the first tour, and members have a variety of gardens to enjoy. It is also a fundraiser for the Northern Hills Master Gardeners to help provide educational and informative gardening events.

The tour will take place from 1-4 p.m. on June 20. are available at Good Earth Natural Foods, Common Grounds, Nursery, and Gardens in Spearfish, as well as Rockingtree Nursery in Sturgis, through Thursday, June 18. The Master Gardeners will also sell tickets at the farmers market in Brady Park June, 13 and 20. Pg 11 OurTowns Wednesday, June 10, 2015 Northern Hills Senior Games June 12-13 SPEARFISH Spearfish Rec and Aquatics Center hosts the Northern Hills Senior Games, which is a regional Olympic-style sports festival for adult athletes (ages Events include a 5K, archery, badminton, basketball, bean bag toss, bowling, cycling, golf, horseshoes, jump rope, pickleball, shuffleboard, swimming, table tennis, tennis, and track and field.
