The Helena Herald brings the following concerning a lady well-known in Dead-wood. "Mrs. N. Dunphy, of this city, met with a tin illing erperienm while on the way to Si. Paul a few days ago.

A real old-fash, oned blizzard struck the train during its passage thraagh Dakota, and it was terrific in its force. Mrs. Dun-phy tried to pass from the sleeper to the dining car, but when she ieached the platform the wind lifted her clear from the train and landed her in a snowbank. It happened that one of the diner cooks saw her when she was blown from the train, and gave the alarm, and the train men dug her out of the n-ountain of snow. It was fortunate that some one saw the accident, as Mrs.

Dunphy would certainly have perished in the storm. It was a close call." -DETWKKN Leave Deadwood for Carbonate at 9 a. ui. Leave Carbonate for Deadwood at '1 p. m.

Why? Because his prices are reasonable 1 22 tf William 1 ullerton, engineer 1 i e.iarge of the engine operating the Gates' crusher at the Old Abe hoist, was a hunted to the hospital yesterday morning, in a fright fully mangled condition. Instead of oil ing up when the crusher is idle, as was hi wont, he waited until the engine and shaft ing were iu motion. To reach ie gear ing beneath the crusher, it was necessary to pass through a 40-foot, narrow in whit the belting runs, and at the far ther end of which appears the shafting. While oiling a pulley of the latter, a set screw caught his jacket and, in a second he was whirling with the shaft making all of forty revolutions a minute, his loer extremities striking the roof and floor at each revolution, and his clothing parting into shreds. At least fifty revolutions were made before his jacket weakened and he fell beneath the shaft a badly man gled mass.

He shouted lustily for help, but the roar of machinery drowned his voice, and after waiting several minutes he crawled through the tunnel to the opening where be was seen. He was taken to the hospital, where an examination disclosed both feet battered to a jelly; both legs broken above the ankle; two ribs broken from the vertebrae, and the njht baud broken and forearm skinned. Both feet were amputated and other injuries dressed by Dr. Dickinson, who entertains little hope for recovery. Tne unfortunate man fully realizes his condition and expressed a desire to die.
