Ware. Sunday afternoon at the houe of 2 was held the funeral services over the remains of Horace Ross, Rev. G. G. Ware of the Episcopal church offielating.

The funeral was Le'd from the residence of Arthur Eldridge, 107 South Alert street, there being present, besides the relatives who reside here, and numerous friends, a large representative of the various orders to which the deceased was an Lopored member. At the wead of the procession was the members of nose Company No. 1, all in uniform and carrying at the head of their column a beautiful silk flag appropriately draped in mourning.

Following was the Knights of Pythias, wearing upon the lapel of their coats the funeral badges. In due order came the members of Lead City Miners' Union, they also wearing the badge used upon occasions of this nature. The spanish-American War Veterans were next in line, and the color sergeant at the head of the column, carried a handsome silk flag bearing the national colors, and draped in honor of their departed comrade. The order at the rear was the F. 0.

wearing the little white apron upon which is the insignia of the lodge. Of this order there was a large number, members being present from Aerie 105, Deadwood, as well as nearly the entire membership of this city. The palbearers consisted of two members from the Fraternal Order of Eagles, two comrades from the national organization of Spanish-American War veterans, and a corresponding number, same being members of Hose Company No. 1. From Bleeker and extending nearly as far back as Wall street, orders to counter march were given, thereby allowing the hearse and mourning car riages, as also convenayes occupied by friends, to pass through.

At this point orders were given to fall in line, the Eagles occupying the foremost place in the column of march. while the other organizations occupied their duly assigned positions. Upon either side of the hearse walked the palbearers, and arriving at the depot In this city accompanied the remains to Deadwood, where they sisted in making the transfer to the standard gauge car. Taking everything into cosideration the entire funeral arrangements were among the most impressive ever held in this city or throughout the entire Hills. The floral tributes were very pretty, though there was not ample time to procure flowers and arrange such designs as was desired, therefore, two members of the K.

of P. lodge of Vermillion, Step Johnson and John Peterson, lert for Sioux City Saturday, so as to have floral designs, which had been dispatched for, at the train upon the arrival of the funeral party that city. The design designated by the Fraternal Order of Eagles is a large eagle, which will, throughout the services to be held in Vermillion this afternoon at 2 o'clock, be placed at the head of the casket. The Spanish-American War Veterans will have placed at the center of the casket a wreath, will the insignia S. W.

V. appropriately arranged. At the foot of the casket will be placed the cap and belt worn by the departed one while a member of Lead City Hose Company No. 1. State Organizer Patterson, of the F.

0.: accompanied the remains to the old home of the deceased at Vermillion, this state. In company with Mr. Patterson was Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Eldridge, sister and brother-inlaw espectively of the deceased.

Before leaving Mr. Patterson telegraphed the president of the Aerie at Sioux City, and received a prompt reply that this excellent order would be at the depot in that city in a body, and that many of the members would accompany him upon his sad mission to Vermillion, where all that is mor. tal to the memory of Horace Ross wil' be laid to rest in the cemtery of that city. Death of Mrs. Woodward.

At the hour of 9:30 Sunday evening the grim reaper of death visited the home of Oscar S. Woodward, 33 South Wall street, and claimed for its victim Mary E. the wife of M. Woodward. To mourn the demise cf loving wife and mother, is a husband, three sons and one daughter.

Of the children there are Edward, who is married and lives at Deefireld, near Rochford, William, who is also married, and lives at Albion, Iowa, and Arthur who is liv. ing in Lead, also a daughter, Mrs. M. M. Nix, who lives in this city, they all being present at the time of death except William.

The funeral will take place from the Methodist church this afternoon at 2:30, Rev. W. M. Todd officiating. Funeral arrangements will be in charge of S.

R. Smith, the undertaker, and interment will be made in the South Lead cemetery. J. D. Heyford of Seattle, Washington, is in the city.

Visits the Hills Again. Ernest W. Julian, representative of the Western Newspaper Union, Omaha. spent yesterday in Lead, calling the trade and his many friends. upon In years past Mr.

Julian has worked upon various papers through the Hills, and conducted a publication of his own for some time at Chadron, Nebraska. After disposing of his interest in Chadron he went to Omaha, where he had secured a lucrative position upon the Bee of that city. Through his arduous efforts and business integrity he made for himself an enviable reputation. After a few months of hard labor upon Omaha's leading paper, he was offered the position of traveling representative for the Western Newspaper Union, the capacity in which he is now working. The many friends of Mr.

Julian are always pleased to meet him, and are gratified to know of his ultimate suc. cess since leaving the Hills. Grand Concert To-Night. This evening will occur the grand concert to be given by the Golden Star Military band, in the Miners' Union opera house of this city. From all indications the concert will be one of the most largely attended enter.

tainments given in the opera house throughout the entire year. One of the leading features will be the assistance rendered by Charity Martin, frequently and invaribly spoken of as "Our Black Hills Nightengale." The program arranged is all that could be asked for and will be an evening of much pleasure to those who are fortunate enough to be present. The committee who has the matter in charge have worked ardently, and their untiring efforts should be crowned with success in every sense of the word. Have Returned Home. Shel Graham and wife returned to Lead Saturday evening over the Burlington route, after an absence of three months, visiting their old home and through the New England states.

They are much elated over their trip, but glad to get back to the Hills. During their absence they visited all the large cities of the east and every point of interest, so they feel well paid for their trip. Mrs. Graham is suffering somewhat with a severe cold which she contracted about a month ago, but is not indisposed to such an extent that it becomes necessary for her to keep within the confines of her home. Mr.

Graham is enjoying the best of health and has throughout the entire trip. Senate Meeting. Regular meeting of the Senate will be held this evening at the usual time and place. Every member should have a bill prepared to introduce under the proper head of business. Let all members be present, and at his desk at 8 o'clock.
