DiS Birth Announcement A son, Clayton James, was born Feb. 8, 2010 to Rylan and Jessie VanGenderen of Sioux Falls at Avera McKennan Hospital. He weighed 7 14 and was 21" long. He has a brother Nolan. Grandparents are Harlan and Judy VanGenderen of Platte and Jim and Linda Thiry of White Lake.

Greatgrandfather is Albert Thiry of Red Hat Society News Information for all Red Hatters: The Lyric Theater is rented for 2010 so we cannot use the back room for Red Hat functions. The March committee is going to have a St. Patrick's Day party Wednesday, March 17 in the evening at Molly's Manor. Details will be in next week's column. Red Hat coffee will be Monday, March 15 at 9 a.m.

at Shorty's. The Spring Fling will be Saturday, May at the Ramkota Inn in Sioux Falls. $30 for a funfilled day. Entertainment will be Pat McGill, who has talent to keep you laughing and crying. This will be a May Day Celebration.

(3-4) Platte Hospital Auxiliary The Platte Hospital Auxiliary met March 1 with seven members present.

The treasurer's books have been audited and found to be in good order. The balance on hand is $6,764.76. Pancake Day was discussed. Food expenses were $232.63 and advertising $349.15. A hog was donated to Platte Locker and it was processed and delivered for $323.83.

The frozen pork chops and sausage were sold for $172. The bake sale brought in $429.50. Thank you to all who donated. We served 450 people with a net income of $2,323.45. We appreciate everyone who donated or helped with this worthwhile cause.

As usual we had a great group working and we are thankful for those who came to eat with us. Our next meeting is May 3 at 12:15 p.m. in the hospital meeting room. Please join us and help us make choices on how to spend the money, as we have many requests. Engagement Announced Herman and Karen Turnis and Gary and Anita Nachtigal, all of Platte, announce the engagement of their children, Heather Turnis and Colin Nachtigal.

Both are graduates of Platte High School. Heather will be graduating from South Dakota State University with a degree in Business Economics in May and Colin will also be graduating from SDSU this May with a degree in Ag Business. A June 5, 2010 wedding is planned. Local News June Thompson, Bailey and Emily of Mitchell visited in the Ivan and Barb Schoenrock home attended the Farm, Home and Sports Show Saturday at the Platte Armory. Morris and Leatrice Johnson attended the 70th birthday party for Vonnie Koopal Saturday at New Holland.

Harry and Ruth Burma drove to Mandan, ND to attend the Gideon training meeting on Friday, returning home Saturday. Ed and Joan Falor attended the Delmont firemen's sausage supper Sunday and visited in the Russell and Barbara Dozark home. LeeAnn's Family Diabetes Support Group to Meet The Charles Mix Diabetes Support Group will hold its next meeting Thursday, March 11 at 5 p.m. in the meeting room at the Platte Health Center. The topic for this meeting is "Diabetes Medications and Machines-How to get the best results" and will be presented by Mary Ringling, registered pharmacist. It is important to understand the particular medications you are using to control your diabetes, what to expect from them for blood sugar lowering, side effects and how to know when you should talk to your doctor about changing medications for better control. Of equal importance is knowing how to care for your blood sugar testing machines, Mary will discuss how to care for and get the most accurate results from these.

Please join us at 5 p.m. on March 11 fo: this important information. A light lunch will be served after the presentation. The meeting. is offered to anyone interested in these topics free of charge.

SUOY wodr Wings Hope Planning Meeting Set for March 15th Wings Hope Cancer Fund will hold a planning meeting on Monday, "March 15 at 5:30 p.m. at the Platte Health Center basement conference room 1. This year's benefit fundraiser walk will be held at the Track on Friday, June 18. The Wings Hope Cancer Fund is seeking people willing to share their ideas, time and talents.

Serving on a committee can be a rewarding experience and a way to give of yourself to those affected with cancer. Area cancer patients may benefit from the annual fundraiser with monetary compensation available for those expenses not covered by insurance. Please plan to attend this meeting and bring volunteers from your church, walking group, coffee friends, bowling team, golf team, civic organization or anyone willing to assist in the planning of this year's local cancer fundraiser.
