The business meeting was conducted by President Beverly Thoreson, Rapid City, at which time she presented the slate of officers for the coming year: Marcella Sattgast, Spearfish, president: Helen Bjordahl, Rapid Oty, vice president; Janice Neugebauer, Oral, secretary; Nora Anderson, Meadow, educational secretary; Brenda Finck, Prairie Oty, stewardship secretary. Roxie Seaman of Prairie City, conducted the installation ceremony. Marjorie Ronken was elected to serve as Redwood News By June A new bumper pool table has been installed in the upper lounge at Redwood for the use of apartment residents. The monthly coffee hour was held in the upper lounge Wednesday of last week. Twenty-four people attended with Clara Moms and June Shuck serving as hostesses.

New residents of Redwood were introduced: Mr. and Mrs. Alex Vail, formerly of Gettysburg; Adetta Monfore, formerly of Gillette; Mary Kovocevich, a former Lead resident who has moved to Redwood from California, and her sister, Ann Hutton of Chicago, who is staying with her sister, Kovocevich, for an indefinite tune. Funeral services for Helen M. Dahl are to be held Wednesday, April 20, at 1 pm.

at St. Paul Lutheran Church. The Rev. William M. Wemer will officiate, assisted by the Rev.

David under son of Deadwood. Burial will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis under the direction of Fidler Funeral Chapel. A memorial has been established to St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Mrs.

Dahl died early Monday morning, April 18, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Deadwood. Helen Myrtle Olson was bom Jan. 23, 1901. at Kochford.

Ill to Louis and Hilma (Gustafson I Olson. She moved in 1909 to South Dakota where her father had homesteaded the previous year. Drought conditions forced the family to move in 1913 to Wadena, but the family relumed three years later to their Perkins County homestead. She was married June 4, 1927, at Bison to Waller C. Dahl.

They purchased a farm near Ixxlgepole. In 1942 the family moved to Spearfish where Mrs. Dahl resided until February of this year when she entered St. Joseph's Hospital. She was a member of St.

Paul's Lutheran Church and the Spearfish Senior Citizens Center. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. F'rank i Florencei Gordon of Spearfish; three sons, James of Slow, Ohio, Floyd and George of Deadwood; two sisters, Mrs. Norman With) Jesfjeld, Hettinger, N.D. and Mrs.

James (Florence) Jesfjeld, El Sobranle, Calif. one brother, Hilbert Olson, Hettinger, N.D.: 10 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Shuck honored Mass of Christian Burial for James J. Humphrey, 76, was held April 18 at St.

Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis with Father Kichard A. Plante officiating. Burial, with military honors, was in Black Hills National under the direction of the F.O. Jolley Funeral Home. A memorial has been established in his memory.

Humphrey, a long-time Whitewood resident, died Thursday at VA Medical in Denver, Colo. James Joseph Humphrey was bom 2, 1906, at Windham, Iowa, to Ol'ver and Katheryn Humphrey. The moved to St. I.awrence, where be grew to manhood and attended High School. He traveled the rodeo circuit for several years and then lived in Iowa City, Iowa, for seven where he was a veterans nan's assistant.

He entered the U.S. Navy during World War II and following his discharge In July of 1940, moved to the Black Hills area where he worked for the Sturgis Livestock Exchange, rodeoed and Judged rodeos. On Sept. 16, 1M9, he married Mildred C. Boltz at Elko, Nev and in 1950 he managed ranches for Western Cattle Company and engaged in livestock buying until retiring in 1969 For several years he trained and bred race horses.

He has made his home in Whitewood since 1954. Humphrey was a member of the American Cost 33 of Sturgis. Surviving are his wife, Mildred of Whitewood; three sons, Burton Humphrey of Anchorage, Alaska, Casey of (ireat Falls, and Patrick Humphrey of Deadwood; four daughters, Mrs. Michael Kerry (ireear and Mrs. Warren (Colleen) White, both of Sturgis, Mrs.

Stephen Molly) Skinner of Grand Forks, 1). and Susan Humphrey of Spearfish; one brother, Clem Humphrey of Iimbard, ill. three sisters, Mrs. Ortrude Meade of Iowa City, Iowa, Mrs. Kalph (Florence I lnz of Centra I la, Mo and Mrs.

In i Kuthi Wines of Kuby Valley, and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers, one sister and his parents. Fred Bray Funeral services for Fredrick Bray, ,7.7, lifelong Uad resident, were held Saturday at Jolley Brothers Funeral Home in Deadwood with Rev. Paul Haycroft of The First Baptist Church of Northern Hills officiating. Masonic rites were conducted F'riday.

In 1979 he moved to IX-nver, Colo to 'niakc his home with a son. lie was to Kdna MuirlH-ad July 17. 1937, at I H-adwood. He was a member of Die Na- Temple, a life member of Deadwood asonic bnlge No 7 and a past patron of lite Central City Eastern 'Star. Survivors include a son, John L.

The 16th annual spring convention of the West River Conference of American Lutheran Church Women was held April 16 at South Canyon Lutheran Church in Rapid City.

Theme of the convention "Do Not Be Afraid" was carried through the program by the speakers and the music. Morning devotions were given by Pastor Richard Schlack of South Canyon Lutheran Church and afternoon devotions were presented by Marjorie Ronken of Buffalo. Special music was presented by South Canyon Lutheran Contemporary Circle and by Kip and Laurel Mickelson Betty Eixenburger and Ethel Sample of Belle Fourche visited with Clara Morns at her Redwood apartment Saturday. Ed and Virginia Yun spent the weekend with their son and family, the Leroy Huttons, at Rapid City. Herb and Evelyn Pantke spent Sunday afternoon at Wall with Gotthold and Emma Eisenbraun, who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Open house was held in the basement of the Wall First Lutheran Church. Approximately 150 people attended. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Merritt entertained Mr.

and Mrs. Oscar Jeffery, Mr. and Mrs. Owen Kemp and Tony at dinner Sunday. The occasion was Oscar's birthday.

Ronald Rosenau of Spearfish, recently departed on a deployment to the Western Pacific. He is a crewmember aboard the amphibious transport dock shop USS Denver, homeported in San Diego. During the deployment, the Denver will conduct various training exercises with other U.S. units and those of allied nations. The Denver is 570 feet long and carries a crew of 473.

It can accommodate an additional 840 combat troops. The business meeting was opened and closed by Sturgis Post Commander Andrew Szilvasi and conducted by District 12 Commander Jake Dell of Nisland. County Commanders elected for the upcoming year were Kenneth Umenthum, Belle Fourche, Butte; Clarence Iindholm, Buffalo, Harding; Lawrence A. Rosch, Spearfish, lawrence; and Andrew Szilvasi, Sturgis, Meade, lead was named to host the 1984 spring District Convention. State legion Commander Wayne N.
